Houston, TX Skatepark

The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark is one of the best transition skateparks in the country. It has every kind of transition a skater could imagine from a kidney pool to a huge 12ft vert bowl. The park is located in downtown Houston at 103 Sabine Street. The hours of operation are 8am-10pm M-F and 1pm-10pm on Sunday. The park will be closed from 6/30/08 to 7/5/08 for a Fourth of July celebration. Make sure to bring your helmet because they are required.

SPS Summit

This year the Skaters for Public Skateparks summit took place in Washington DC. Every year we try to pick a different part of the country and this year we chose the East Coast. Skaters converged from around the country to talk skateparks and check out some of the local spots. A big thanks goes to John Leizer for putting this together.

Cuellar Park

Cuellar Park is located at 5626 San Fernando on the city's westside. The skatepark is around 5000 sqft and the park features the typical set up with a quarterpipe, bank ramp, ledges and fun box. However, all the skate features are built out of precasted concrete which is a much better option than steel and composite modular equipment. The small park is actually a lot of fun. Go check it!!!!

Wichita Falls, TX

Wichita Falls is almost finished with their first public skatepark. The park features a flow bowl and a street area. At the time I took these pictures the street course was not completed, but the flow bowl was pretty much finished. The flow bowl is a concrete wonderland with everything you can ever imagine in a bowl. Grindline did a phenomenal job in building this park. The park is not open yet, but we will be keeping you posted.

The Kerrville Skatepark is now open for business. The 8500 sqft. facility features a nice mixture of transition and street terrain. The facility is located at Singing Winds Park. This is phase one and you can find out more about phase two at www.kerrvilleplayscape.org. A big thanks goes to Misty Blevins for raising the money for this facility. The park was built by SPA Skateparks out of Austin.

The Woodlands

The Woodlands has recently added a phase 2 flow bowl on their Bear Branch skatepark. It's a great bowl with hips, shallow end, deep end and plenty of lines. Watch out for the leaks. After heavy rains both bowls will leak. And remember to bring your helmet. The Woodlands strictly enforces the helmet rule at this park.

Laredo, TX

Laredo, TX is home to seven public skateparks. Not bad for a city the size of Laredo compared to much larger cities which have zero parks. All the parks are prefab, but some of them look pretty good. Go check out Laredo and swing by the local shop Exodus Skateboards for more info on places to ride.
